Pianist Larry Vuckovich’s show pays tribute to jazz giant and old friend - SOLD OUT!

Bay Area pianist Larry Vuckovich is preparing to honor the legendary tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon at Jazz at the Barn. The concert, celebrating Gordon's 101st birthday, promises to be a memorable event.

Vuckovich’s connection with Gordon runs deep. A formative experience playing with Gordon at Copenhagen’s Club Montmartre left an indelible mark on him. During their two-week collaboration, Vuckovich learned valuable lessons about accompaniment from the saxophone giant. Gordon’s strong melodic lines and soulful playing style deeply influenced the pianist. Reflecting on this experience, Vuckovich said, “What was so exciting was his strong melodic lines. It was like this big pull, a soulfully melodic engine pulling the whole thing.”

For this tribute concert, Vuckovich will be joined by a stellar quintet, featuring tenor saxophonists Steve Heckman and Craig Handy. Backing them up are  Doug Miller on bass and Sylvia Cuenca on drums!
